FAA Rule Making News

AMA published this NEWS ARTICLE that sounds ominous but gives few details about newest surprises coming from the FAA.   It seems they now might eventually require RC aircraft to have a GPS lockout system or a transponder system to prevent flights in restricted airspace, possibly including the 5 mile radius around Tillamook Airport.   More related recent FAA news links: Transponder testing, States and Cities can’t regulate RC, Airport lockout device to be studied.

NCRCM member David Grigg has passed on
Dave Grigg
Dave Grigg with his fun flyer on a nice sunny day in April 2014. Dave was a long time RC flier that joined our club in 2012. Sadly he passed on in 2015.

Dave Grigg joined the club in 2012.  We are sad to learn that he is now gone.  Dave was a generous and interesting person.  Many shared his pleasant stories and conversations at the airfield.  He was very fond of having apparently the lowest possible AMA number, oo1, which I can verify 100% as being his genuine AMA number.  See also his obituary.

New Runway Surfacing to be Installed

Ron Brewer obtained a couple of 9’x50′ sheets of rubberized canvas for the club to use for a non-grass runway.  It will allow the takeoff and landing of planes that need a cleaner surface, such as those with small wheels,  tippy landing gear, or low slung turbines.  We discussed the installation and possible locations at the April meeting.  Ron and Stuart will start installing one of the sheets soon.  We are planning to put it directly in front of the tables abutting the southern edge of our current rubber mat runway. Give Stuart or Ron a call if you want to help with installation of it.

April 4 meeting notes

We discussed the following topics: design of a sign for the airfield, the new runway material and installation options, our finances, David Grigg and his passing, mower maintenance, multi-rotor technology, and pest control in the toilet.
